Help Save Handmade! PLEASE READ!!

From the Save Handmade Website:

Overview
We're all for strengthening the safety standards of mass-produced toys, clothes, and accessories made in China, and banning toxins like phthalates and lead. But this year, congress passed the ill-conceived Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act, a law which goes into effect in two months and will absolutely decimate the small toy manufacturers, independent artisans, and crafters who have already earned the public trust. The very same ones that we often feature here and in our yearly special edition gift guides.
With this act going into effect February 10 2009 so many people we love will be affected: Moms who sew beautiful handmade waldorf dolls out of home, artists who have spent decades hand-carving trucks and cars out of natural woods, that guy at the craft show who sold you the cute handmade puzzle--even larger US companies who employ local workers and have not once had any sort of safety issue will no longer be able to sell their goods. Not without investing tens of thousands of dollars into third-party testing and labeling, just to prove that toys that never had a single toxic chemical in them still don't have a single toxic chemical in them.
Please go check out the Save Handmade website and add their button to your blog or website.

It's Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas!

Well my girls decorated our tree after dinner Thanksgiving day. They did a great job! I just thought I would share some of my handmade/handpained ornies I've done over the years. I have lots going on today, I'm making some stocking ornies & some Annie ornies. Then heading into the kitchen to mix up a batch of salt dough. I have lots of cookies cutters gifted to me from my friend Sherry and I just have to play! Until Next Time...

I had been eyeing them at Wally World just the other day. She also has 3 other packages wrapped up with specific instrustions not to open until Christmas day, I wonder if Sherry knows how this is going to kill me until then! LOL!! I cant wait to get to work with these cookie cutters. Oh I am going to have so much fun tonight!!

Sherry you are such a wonderful lady and am so glad to call you my friend.

A Little Crafter after my own Heart!

My youngest daughter Tori (who is 12) is taking "Today's Teen" in Jr. high. Well today she brought me home a gift! She made me a pillow case! It is soo cute. She was so proud of it, she then wanted to make a pillow. I found her some scrap fabric and she made a pillow in no time. She brought home an apron the other day she made for the class. After sewing, they will be learning some cooking skills and will be using their aprons. She forgot to bring that home today for pics, but I will post pics of her apron & pillow in the next day or so. She is my "mini me" and maybe even will follow in Mom's creative footsteps.

Here is Tori wearing her apron & her pillow. She did an awesome job!

I've added 2 sets of these cute ginger ornies to my site and I'm starting some salt dough snowman ornies today. I will post pics of the snowmen when they are done.

It's Fall here in Michigan

And I just love watching the leaves change colors. I spent yesterday gathering some beautiful red leaves and will venture out today for some orange/yellow leaves. Im trying to find some info on how to protect the leaves so that I can "keep" them, for display/photo purposes. Maybe even make a wreath. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear from you. I did spend some time this morning giving the leaves a coat of mod podge, hoping it will keep them from drying out and crumbling.

First attempt at vintage hang tags

Well I've decided to attempt some vintage halloween tags. I think they turned out pretty good but I think they may be missing something. I stained the tags with walnut ink and I found a cd I purchased some time ago with vintage photos on it and they had holiday images. I think I will add them to my Etsy store. I may try to do some Christmas tags next. Maybe add some glitter and colored ribbon.
I hope you all are having a great Monday!

Yankee Air Museum Air Show

There was an airshow in our area Sunday and fortunately for us, they fly right over our house. We must have caught the end because we only kept seeing the same bomber plane passing over. My girls thought it was so awesome that they fly right over. It was a beautiful day so I had to include the American Flag that stand at our community entrance.

Yo-Yo Maker

I found a yo-yo maker at JoAnn's that lets you make yo-yo's in the shape of a flower or heart.

I got started making yo-yo's from Sherry of AnniesCupboards and have made a few candle mats with these yo-yo's. These yo-yo makers are so easy to use.
I bought the small ones but realized they are too small for what I would use them for,
so I will go back today and get the large size makers
and have a yo-yo making day!

Sherry has a great tut here for making circle yo-yo's.
